he said, 'It's better to look
at the sky than live there.
Such an empty place; so
vague. Just a country where
thunder goes and things
disappear.' Not so. Ever
changing, ever reaching,
the expanse overhead: what
goes on there affects us
down under. Must be a
magnetic pull: find myself
always looking up at the
wonders filling my eyes:
each one new and exciting,
each one unique --- never
the same sky twice. I'd
never be bored. I'd chase
the sun from one horizon to
the other, break a bucking
bolt of lightning, dance with
the Northern Lights, ride
the jet to destinations
unknown, surf the clouds,
spin down to earth on the
the back of a twister and
slide into the pot of gold at
the end of the rainbow --- I'd
do it all. Let me live high
and free, unfettered by the
restrictions of gravity ---
Karla, your poetic high reminds us of how our imaginations and spirits soar unbounded by our earthly feet. The expanse of blue above us an ever changing environ of color and light that reaches out and demands our attention. We never tire of its mysterious allure. Lovely writing! I still incline towards nothing is up there or anywhere else; yet this, of course, is a sublime example of diverse thought; everyone must think about & ackowledge all possible ways our lives can take. Of course, nature's power is immense and immaculate - this piece has one language with it. Plus I love Your style of writing; how poem goes through changes of itself; not only description, but opinionS that converse with each other. Great use of language and poetic freedom.
I have a friend that spent many years looking down; at the sidewalk, the curb, the grass, never looking forward or upward, a generally sad person, until one day he looked up at the sky...it totally changed his life, that and he stopped walking into light poles. Nicely written.
