So your name
May have been, put upon a list
War is hell
Shoot first
We will worry about hell
When you get home
If that makes you a war criminal
Shoot first
I do not care
You will be alive
You have a right to live
Not be a sacrificial dove
Shoot first
F*** them local warlords
Who feel they may have been dishonored
When the rules of war
Rules of engagement keep shifting
Like the blowing desert sands
Shoot first
When the enemy is now your
Friend
When the feeling in your gut
Sends your instinct raging
Shoot first
Do you remember long ago
We walked in the woods and a deer jumped across our trail
Time seemed to slow down to
A crawl
If you get that feeling, we talked about
Shoot first
In this war of
Road bombs and snipers
An enemy unseen
I doubt your get the chance, to
Shoot first

Trouble is, when we shoot first, we're charged with murder. The enemy uses his own women, children, handicapped as shields, and we're charged? Something wrong, here...but not in your poem. This one hits like a bullet between the eyes: nice shot.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
When the enemy is now your
Friend
When the feeling in your gut
Sends your instinct raging
Shoot first ------- Wow! That got me off guard, this was intense!
and then the mention of the poor deer (with a beating heart, is all I kept thinking of) and the females who give birth!
This poem is gem to savor and treasure Stan!
