Mr. Ed here's the rooster poem lol I just ran across it
was going to write another but wow I already wrote it

San Isabel

Driving out of the desert
into forest of evergreen
hints of aspens turning
Switchbacks
getting in the way
of my view

Ranch house in sight
an old wind mill
line shack
roof caved in
from some long ago
heavy snow

A lake of aqua blue
water like ice
fishermen on the side
in a boat
I glance back
at my fishing pole
yet our destination
is the Arkansas

A little cow town
come tourist trap
We rent a room
The guy says
you won’t need an alarm
The rooster out back
serves for that
I laugh
we check in

It’s the cleanest room
we’ve rented thus far
We’re heaven bound
for a goodnights sleep
I open the window
and what do I hear
chickens out back
I laugh loudly
He wasn’t kidding honey

Sure as hell
there’s the chicken coop
and there’s the alarm
strutting his stuff
proudly guarding his hens
the brood stirs as I cluck
out the window
laughing like a loon

I dream of roosters and hens
bacon and eggs
suddenly the alarm goes off
for three hours
our rooster crows

We pack up with big smiles
and chuckles like cockles
We head for the cafe
for my bacon and eggs
now it’s time to fish
the river awaits

The Arkansas
big browns, fast water
silver-red flashes
I’ve driven to paradise
chasing freedom, chickens
and fish
in my dreams
they seemed to be
just out of reach

The sun tells me I’m awake

Oh my Dale you definitley have that farm cursing infernal feathered alarm clock "picked and pecked"!!!! Whoever it was that said those lil feathered buggers cockle doodle do at dawn was soooooo wrong, the buggers crow all day and night long!!!!

This was a wonderful whimisical read; especially dreaming of bacon and eggs, hmmmm I think I shall go have me some!

The whole poem is an absolute delight, Dale, but this:

The Arkansas
big browns, fast water
silver-red flashes
I’ve driven to paradise
chasing freedom, chickens
and fish
in my dreams
they seemed to be
just out of reach

The sun tells me I’m awake

is stunningly visual and elliptically so telling! And I see Ed beneath me has highlighted a different stanza, so this Fisherman's Tale ISN'T one that got away... Throughly enjoyed - and I daresay, slow-roasted on a twig-spit over an open fire... BBQ'd fish... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Tummy's rumblin... :)) LOL K xx

Now this was a poem worth waiting for! Loved it, Dale. And you even had a clean room - now that is Heaven - especially on a fishin trip!!

And when you get a chance, check out one of my stories - The Old Cabin Down by the River - also about fishin, and a slightly different kind of bird.
