Of Devils and Dust

the wind king comes
to claim his lands
the leaves take part
and clap their hands
 

the swallows from the
swelt’ring shade
flit forth to flap
the graying day
 

and all the dust
in devil’s whirl
twists tight the
‘testines of the world
 

then all implodes
and only stays
the music of the
band that plays
 

on

I think this is my favorite poem you've shared so far. It's imbued with such grace and a deep resonance that gives the poem a feel of something classic, to be memorized and read again, and again, and again.

Dust devils mean evil spirits to the Navajos...
So they avoid them, as the impending storm.
