This is the November poem for the calendar Nature through Poetry 2013.

Poem Artwork

Young Deer

Young deer, wild friend,
Peacefully standing
Near the new rock wall
Almost finished
At our house.

Gentle, graceful being
You bring unexpected joy
To the day.
How honored I am
You came by.

The rest of the herd
Is not far off-
Safe, they feel,
To live undisturbed
On the land.

Glimpses of other
Does, bucks and fawns
Bring great excitement.
It is Nature’s blessing-
Living among wildlife.

What a terrific poem! I love how you show the gentleness of the deer in your choice of words. Corrine Ardoin

I used to go out to a state park nearby just to watch the deer play in the fall. I like the stone wall. I had extensive stone walls holding back the hillside built in 1928 with rounded river rock in West Virginia. But, the only wildlife I saw there was an occasional squirrel or possum.
