Crickets.....wonders of nature.....don't you just love their music? giggle........

The courting begins at dusk,
When darkness descends
Upon the sun-warmed earth!
I hear them from my open window.
Aggressive females, serenading
In sensuous rhythm,
Enticing the eager males to join them
Neath the blanket of twinkling stars!
Desperate for romance,
Their hypnotic songs
Promise long sultry nights
Of unbridled passion!
And the males cannot resist!
Throughout the dog days of summer
The spectacle continues
Until at last the chorus diminishes!
Lonely intermittent chirps,
Females still searching!
But couples have paired off
Settling down to raise their young.
And soon the courting of the crickets will end.
By God! Then I’ll get some sleep!

Cricket passion? Jiminy crickets. They make good bait though. Patrick

Yes, Annabel, you give meaning to the music of the crickets.

between silences
a cricket punctures the night
with a single note

Sleep well. -gene.

When I lived in the Chicago area I had a job that required me to be at work by 4am...needless to say, I was greeted by the Crickets and always considered it as their way of saying 'good morning.'

Cheers,
Dan

I love their summer chorus, and I always feel a bit sad when Autumn arrives and their songs are silenced, once more.

So adorable. Don't mind listening to the symphony of crickets as long as they remain outside...

Be always safe,
Karen

I hate those little pains. When I first moved into this little house this place was infested with them. It took two weeks to finally send them packing. However I liked the writing job you did with the little pests. Very Fine write!!

GOD BLESS YOU

Could be worse, Annabel. Could be the screetching of car wheels or, in my youth, the clanging of streetcars. When we moved from the west side of Chicago to the suburbs, the sound of crickets was beautiful, as are your words and I do thank you for the very interesting lesson.
Your friend, Mark
