Winter's Hush

My favourite time of the year is nearly upon us...autumn! I intend to enjoy every moment .....

Poem Artwork

The garden grows weary.
Fragrant blooms rapidly fading,
Returning to the earth
As summer slowly slips into fall!
Caught in autumn’s chilly breath
Unfettered leaves of crimson and gold
Sashay to the ground
In a dazzling waltz as old as time!
Days grow ever shorter…
Nature prepares her endless realm
For a lengthy respite
Neath a sparkling blanket of white!
Most of the birds have vanished…
Seeking warmer destinations!
But a small choir always lingers
To bring music to the human soul
When winter’s hush is deafening!

The daylight sadly is already getting shorter and I have to get out to the woods and lakes very soon, to enjoy them while I can.

Oh, yeah, sure, and in four months when you have to build a tunnel of snow to get out of your door spring will be your favorite time of year. Truly, though, when I lived in Chicago autumn was also my favorite time of year, especially after the first frost and the mosquitoes and pollen were gone.
Lovely poem, however, my friend.

Nicely told, Anna. Nicely captures the "moment," so to speak, then as you say, "....winter's hush is deafening!" Well Done, thanks Dick

Yep, I think a lot of people are going to enjoy autumn, Anna, including me. This was a very lyrical, wishful piece of work . . . Thank goodness for the birds of winter to soothe the soul.
