Quick autumn draught whips the trees
Dry leafs soar like feathers!
Caught in updrafts they ride the wind
Freed by autumn weather!
Driving rain soaks the land
As water tables rise,
Nature prepares for winter’s freeze
Neath grey and dismal skies!
Silence in the backyard
Where a feathered symphony played!
Musical tunes neath a summer moon
Where romantic promises made!
Naked trees bend to and fro
Waving as autumn retreats!
Maidenly modesty gone with the wind
Along with summer’s heat!
And just beyond tomorrow
An old man this way comes,
With icy breath and frigid touch
He’ll irritate everyone!

With:
icicle fangs
and snow that hangs
on wavelike drifts
In frozen mists
That would freeze a body
Without hot toddy
Better make it two

Great poem, my friend.
Markie
Great poem, but it sure does make us appreciate the summers we get, erm, once a decade.
