The bizarre January storm took centre stage…
Torrential rain, temperate howling wind
Intermingled with razor sharp ice pellets!
Nature putting on a feral show!
And in the midst of the performance
A sudden flash; a deafening boom!
Lightening ripped the black sky in two,
Its flaming lethal tentacles seeking a target!
Beside the bay, deep in the shadows
Of stately trees, righteous sentinels
That shielded her peaceful slumber…
The little church shivered in the ferocious storm!
For more than a century she stood…
Bearing the steady assault of wind and weather
Off the icy waters of the Bay of Fundy!
But this night, she had the lead role in a treacherous play!
When the lightening pierced her heart…
She became the victim in the final act!
And the wind whipped the flames into a pyre
That reached into the heavens!
In fury, the fierce gale danced with her!
Savage flames licking at her timbers!
And the raindrops were her tears
As she slumped to the earth!

Great poem describing such an event. I guess it can't have been a Catholic church, but one of the fragmented churches. :)
I love these kind of writes as it gives insight to another part of the world with such powerful inspiration and imagery.
My heart goes out to your community for their loss.

Very good though wondrous poem, my far northern and probably becoming cold friend.
