The Purest Kind of Joy

There's nothing like a walk in the forest in autumn...I feel so connected to the earth...

Crimson and gold autumn leaves tumble

But before they reach the forest floor

A wild zephyr lifts them heavenward

In a merry dance to who knows where

Faded wildflowers bravely stand their ground

Delightful remnants of summer's glory

Nestled into the trees as though seeking shelter

In these cool autumn days

There's a crispness in the fresh breeze

And the silence here is in perfect harmony

With the echo of my footsteps

Announcing my presence to the universe

My heart wants to sing out loud...

For the reality of the simplicity of life

When I am one with nature

Is the purest kind of joy there is!

Annabel I believe most of us are drawn to the many changes. A warm feeling inside.

You have described the purity of an autumn day. I just went outdoors and experienced a bit of it before it disappears by the end of the week into the endless summer turned sour we have here.

Thanks for refreshing me.

Lovely poem, Anna. Strange, though, because what I said to Bonnie when I came in from my 7:00 a.m. walk with Mushi, (though then 7:45) that, other than Autumn colored leaves, this feels like a beautiful, crisp Autumn day. I do love Southern California, but do miss the colors of Autumn. Was your new friend/baby with you on your lovely walk?

Beautifully penned, Anna, a fitting tribute to the changing of the seasons, especially when it changes to fall.

Autumn slows us down and provides us more serenity, and this is a perfect description of that.
