I am a killer

I murdered a child today

And you ask how I breathe?

How I can stroll among people humane?

Well that’s easy I fake it!

Because there is nothing I can do

To bring that child back

Whose blood is on my hands

I may not have pulled the trigger

I may not have taken that shot

But neither did I try to stop

And so I am guilty

Guilty because I am a coward

I should have been there

I should have taken that bullet

And saved a mother’s son

I should have let my blood flow

To prevent the damage done

For now epoch’s gone

And our souls have been tarnished

With the cruor of these kids

I’m not the only one

Who murdered them today

You were an equal partner

And now we all must pay

With our children’s blood

As penance for our silence

Because we have forgotten

What humanity really is

And this hoggish mortal heart

Cares only for what is his

We have hardened our souls

To cruelty and death

Hundreds died today

And you say mine are safe??

It’s a new low for humanity

And deplorable for a Muslim

Because now we all have to live

In these perilous times so blue

Today I call us a murderer

Tomorrow our kids will call us that too!

NOTE: This is for all those kids in Gaza and for the kids in peshawar, I'm sorry you had to face the brunt of a war that wasnt yours.

I want you to know that you were very brave and that you and your family will always be in my prayers.

You are better off as far away from this thing we call a 'world'.

May God make you from those who enter paradise!

Beautiful sentiments but we cannot be everywhere to save everyone. Thought provoking pen.

A very telling and poignant poem. When we let the territorial imperative take over and justify it with some religious doctrine, war tends to take place. It always seems to have been justifiable to kill innocent men, women and children when at war, as though it were some release from the murder that it really is. When humankind finally realizes that war is nothing more than murder… mass murder, stupidly justified, this kind of killing will stop. Hopefully, this century will see the end to war.

Stark, harsh, real, and very sad... This world is indeed a mess. Thank you for sharing this poignant and meaningful poem, TeeJay. Love and peace to you,

Regis
