Rain enhances the beauty of nature’s colors. My cousin, Patricia, asked me to add to this piece; however; I tried—late nights, early mornings, and during some days. But I guess it wasn’t to be. I did a little changing toward the end, hopefully for the better. ‘Twas quite a task you gave me, my sweet.

I never thought a plant With a hundred needles on every limb Could ever be pretty— And then it rained Droplets clung to each leaf Causing the entire plant To sparkle like fine diamonds— But the sun beat down and dried up the rain Then one cold and rainy morning I watched a photographer In Utah’s glorious Bryce Canyon Taking pictures of hoodoos in the rain— I was curious and asked him why He must have been asked this Many times in life’s chosen activity For there was no pause in his answer— The colors are more vivid when wet. Since then I’ve noticed time and again How droplets of rain or cool morning dew Add brilliance and color and hues unaware And bring forth beauty hidden within— Soft-petaled thorns or hardness of stone ©️Copyright 2021 By David Lee Thompson

No wonder the other Diana follows you* (Diana Wiles and I call each other the ‘other Diana). I enjoy how this piece starts out with a hundred needles and ends with soft petals. I like the two lines: “Causing the entire plant/To sparkle like fine diamonds—“. Had to look up ‘hoodoos’, thank you for that. And…let’s see…the way you wrote these two lines: “For there was no pause in his answer—/The colors are more vivid when wet.” let me envision a photographer in the ‘zone’ of focus, even in that quick and accurate reply. There is ample awareness and appreciation in this writing, and those two ingredients are surely magnificent writing tools. ~~ djl

A fine piece of writing David…and the photograph is stunning!
Nature’s perfect display of art for our enjoyment and appreciation…
I love to bring home special pebbles from the beach, and when
they are placed in water their colours are so bright, vivid and alive…
Similarly I love crystals and gemstones, and they are also breathtakingly
beautiful when placed in the base of a small fountain…
So much natural beauty all around us…and all for free…

Why sometimes, a dreary, rainy day in autumn brings out the colors of the leaves in an entirely different way than the bright sunlight. Always enjoyed that. And I planted purple sage. I watered them often, but they didn't bloom. And then, it rained, and beautiful complementary purple flowers appeared on all branches as if by magic.

Also why I loved morning dew. even though it soaked my canvas JCPenney basketball shoes and my jeans halfway to my knees, the little droplets made everything sparkle in the sunlight.
