They have been living off the fat of the land for too long now, while the dispossesed and starving die on our streets without even a whisper
Only the ignorant can possibly be blind to the two-tier systems that are now in place in our "socially advanced" societies: the haves and the have-nots. And it is self-explanatory how the distinction comes to be and why - yet you paint in vivid Goya here scenes of Revelation that need to line the corridors of power in the hope that, in passing, relevant eyes might witness their own ugliness in the mirror... xx

You have to go back to The Thirties to find Americans truly furious at the suffering of the poor and forgotten. And our character and nobility of purpose has degenerated ever since. Please add my indignation to yours. I praise your fury.
I think that there is a lot of bad press given to the wealthy; perhaps they are an easy target or it could simply be envy. The truth is, that without the wealthy, our government and charities would not be able to function. Even though the percentage paid may not be the same in certain cases, the wealthy DO pay huge amounts in taxes which support the less fortunate. Capitalism does not keep the wealthy from paying taxes, it simply gives us all the right to forge forward and create a means of gaining wealth. The responsibility for caring for children is with the parents. Having children that parents have no means of supporting or expecting others to take on that responsibility is wrong. If I go out and bust my butt to make a good living, I should not be punished or have my wealth stripped from me to support those who were not as inventive, did not work as hard or sacrifice as much. I agree that fixing problems does lie with each of us and that we should not wait for others to handle it for us. Good job, Lori.

I have been in a lot of places in my seventy years, Lori, and I have never seen starving children on the streets or anywhere esle. I'm not saying there isn't any, I'm only saying I have never seen them. No children in this country starves because of the fat cats as you seem to suggest, it is usually neglect from their parent(s).
Well said and a strong voice hopefully not crying in the wilderness. It is indeed sad that in countries like yours and mine we can spend billions on defence, billions on research for aerospace, billions to bail out big industry, billions on world relief but little children still roam the street cold and hungry.
