Poem Artwork

a boy went marching off to war
needing to help settle a score
stay home his mama did implore
don't shut that door don't shut that door

he trained and passed the exercise
now the plane with big guns he flies
wearing goggles over his eyes
his mama cries his mama cries

in a battle dog fight attack
listened to the tail gun rack back
heard the fuselage take a crack
his world turned black his world turned black

battle's over no rising sun
life snuffed out before it's begun
again war killed a mama's son
nobody won nobody won

kathy, as usual a great poem...nice to read your work again.
if I may comment on "nobody wins a war" Let me remind the people that our Freedom was and has been maintained by blood not words..
We that believe in the freedom we have go willingly into battle for a cause that only comes from the soul and the love of a country that is greater then self. Vietnam Vet

If it was left up to mothers, there would never be
another war for sons and daughters to march off to,
and the world would be the better for it. -gene.

The realty of war is that young men and women die. Politicians can sugar coat it all they want but that is the sad truth...somebody has to die for someone to win.

Nobody wins in a war; there are better ways to solve conflicts or differences! Sad one today, Kathy, but effectively and powerfully penned! Well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Everyone loses in a war but the overall is what loss is less. This reminds me of the song "where have all the young men gone" It's shameful we have not matured as a being to prevent violence as the only action we have to accomplish goals. Wonderful poem.

Stay well and keep writing

Kathy,

You captured the ideology of a mother, when her son leaves to fight a senseless (any war) and not come home. There are no winners, we all lose when a life is taken. Powerful, moving and thought provoking piece from an author who I will always respect and admire.

Perfect and touching, Stuart
