Knock-Knock!!!

We have a pileated woodpecker as big as a chicken that seems to enjoy drilling dime size holes in the bottom of our deck. His knocking is driving the dogs crazy because they think somebody is constantly at the door. It’s not doing my deck much good either and while they are allegedly shy, my stomping on the deck doesn’t seem to faze him.

Knockety Knock

Knockety Knock

Woodpecker starts drilling

About 8 o’clock

Makes the dogs crazy

As they dance on the rug

Just because Woody

Is in search of a bug

My deck is beginning

To look like Swiss cheese

I tried hanging wind chimes

That sing in the breeze

To act like a scare crow

To keep him away

But I don’t think it’s working

I heard him today

And so did the dogs

As they barked at the door

While I stomped on the deck

To dislodge him once more

I’ll just have to accept

All the bads with the goods

It’s the price that you pay

When you live in the woods

I'd rather have Woody Woodpecker makin noise than Noisy Neighbors drinkin, hollerin, and hootin at 4 AM.

PS: Learn how to make Hawk Noises - old Woody will probably move elsewhere.

Giggle...delightfully funny! That last stanza says it all...at least you don't have car horns honking, sirens, screeching tires...etc...

So that's where they got the model for Woody Woodpecker! You should be grateful because I heard that pileated woodpeckers are rather rare. if you think that's nuts, just wait till you get squirrels. Perhaps a possum or two. Good luck in the woods, you two.

Woodpeckers peck,
in search of a meal.
You should've made your deck,
out of stainless steel.

Enjoyed very much.

A funny poem about an annoying problem. I liked the idea my friend sent about hanging CD's to distract the bird. While you're at it, get rid of the turkey vultures on the cupola.

Hmmm, a hose from your car and bunch of exhaust fumes might do the trick. Then, though it wouldn't do you deck much good, but, what the hell, it's full of holes anyway, but I suppose as stick of dynamite would do the trick.

Hah! You're going to let him disrupt your life and not take serious methods to drive him away, or make sure he never pecks again. I'm an animal/bird lover, but there comes a time when love turns to hate-filled violence.
