Today, from the 25th floor of my high-rise apartment in Doha, we had the experience of winter fog. Here is a picture and poem to mark the unusual event.

The Fog Creeps In

Upon awakening, my world had an unappealing view,
Thru the window on the upper floor, all was askew.
A fog has crept into the city on cautious animal paws,
Making the world now invisible of what we often saw.
The vast landscape of this city’s dominant skyline
Has become enveloped in thick mist as a faded byline.
The light has dimmed and all has become clouded;
Windows and rooftops have now become shrouded.
The grand mosque in the distance enveloped in mist;
The fog completely indifferent to what lies in its midst.

I rushed to pen and paper as poetic lines came to mind;
An event was now happening I considered one of a kind.
One cannot stop the urge of the Muse once she has begun;
Soft melodies emerge from distant places that will be sung.
The mind and heart film over as the words spill onto the page;
The creative juices now flowing with the prescience of a sage.
When suddenly, just beyond my window, two heads emerge;
Cleaning windows on a flimsy lift, looking fearful as a scourge.
When finished, they waved to me happily thru the clear glass,
As I stand in my pajamas, coffee in hand, dumbfounded alas.
