No sudden warning
No winter storming
The mountain rumbles
The rocky region trembles
The onlookers stare in awe
A sight no one ever before saw
Slowly first, a hesitation, a trickle
Was the mountain just being fickle
The snow runs down on wolf paws
Now on the attack with gaping jaws
God in His Heaven hears the lion roar
Running down the cliffs like a wild boar
White pillow clouds block the sun’s rays
The cause lasts minutes, the effects days
Stillness soon returns like a prodigal son
A snow river at peace no longer on the run
It is really interesting how the lines in the poem build to the end just like an avalanche would. And an excellent choice of words, similes and metaphors to complete the affect your tried to get with your poem--kudos.
A fitting title would be Snow Flash Flood. The only rivers of snow are glaciers, slow.
I was in Squaw Valley in the 70's when one dislodged from a high ridge. It missed the ski lodges, but the sight of that snow-tsunami, roaring and rumbling, will forever haunt me. An evocative write for me. Peace... r
