We often wonder about the stars;
We know they lie far beyond Mars.
We wonder what they have to say,
As they twinkle like that far away.
The stars they come out every night;
The stars fill our eyes with their sight.
What if they never appeared at all?
The nighttime sky would seem small.
We find stars in a multitude of places;
They twinkle in eyes of people’s faces.
Stars can be found in a summer pond;
Stars trace the smile of one I am fond.
Stars fill vast oceans with night’s light;
Stars are still there when out of sight.
Spread across night as diamond dust;
The North Star shyly appears at dusk.
Let us not question the value of stars,
Enough that they lie far beyond Mars.
Stars are but angels who make no fuss,
Created as sentinels to watch over us.
This brings back wonderful memories of one of my brothers who had a high power telescope and would show me all kinds of cool stuff as far as that telescope could show us. Fun times. Imaginative moments and twinkling magic!
As a person of scientific bent, I find an experienced poet writing star poetry like this to be rather trite. I much prefer the old child's poem… "Twinkle, twinkle, little star… How I wonder who you are…"
For example, except for way they appear sometimes in the sky, stars and planets do not lend themselves to comparisons like… "…lie far beyond Mars."
Explore the mystery of how nature makes unexpected gifts of creative wonders to an unsuspecting caregiver one late night and early morning in southeastern Georgia, USA.
Love ya!

Star bright.
This poem's a star,
In its own right.
And don't forget the stars we see when we get hit on the head.
