Dawn has its own fugitive reality,
As though stolen from night’s negligence.
A thief ever seeking a greater totality,
As though offering itself in recompense.
The day awaits the appointed hour,
Searching the horizon for the coming dawn.
Watching in patience from a citadel tower,
With all the vigilance of a forest fawn.
Unaware, dawn arrives in silence,
On the winged hooves of the deer.
Its breath cold white in compliance,
To the winter season’s biting spear.
Hush, the dawn announced shyly,
I have not yet fully arrived.
Enjoying the moment a little slyly,
Knowing fully it has never survived.
The dawn lasts for a few seconds,
A hint of light, a breath, then a glow.
Giving in finally to the day’s weapons,
And as evanescent as winter snow.
The reality of the day held at bay,
With trembling lips softened stealth-like.
Dawn has a few whispered words to say,
Nature’s prelude makes the day forthright.

Nature as a way of turning everything to the light and dawn has a way of emitting her own special light. You capture the spirit quite well here, I am sending you a warm thought for the day. Hope the dawn remains with you forever and a day

Superb writing. You are correct. Dawn is but a fleeting moment, and then day takes over. You "see" things most of us do not. This, to me, is an eye-opening kind of write, John.

Anyone who has slept in the vicinity of a rooster knows that the dawn does not bring silence when that cock starts crowing!
