FIRST LIGHT
By John Herlihy
I bow my head down in first light,
I genuflect in adoration at the sight.
The starlight may no longer gloat,
Gone with the wind to a place remote.
The plate of night darkness despaired,
Dawn’s faint glimmer to nothing compared.
The old man of the moon now discontent,
To give up his light and to the dawn relent.
Earth’s land began to simmer and glow,
The faint light dragging shadows in tow.
The light and shadow moving as in a dance,
Lovingly touching each other as in romance.
Wind begins to breathe its breath of breeze,
The flowing grass feels its caress with ease.
The first light graces the land with its touch,
Awaiting the chirping of the morning thrush.
Love ya!

I hope I never have to get into the practice of genuflecting, even to the dawn. Seems like a lot of folks doing it to our great fearless leader the Trumpeter. Makes me sick.

Until first light.
Then I went to bed,
and said goodnight.
