I walk as in a dream through the wild undulating land,

To greet the surging waves of highlands near at hand.

They fill me with their natural beauty, no compromise,

Universal signs that live forever whose truth never dies.

The heart opens at the sight of the restless green hills;

The light and shadow of the fields momentarily thrills.

I listen to the silence with feelings of a loving passion;

My eyes sip from the chalice of enduring compassion.

- - - - - - - - - -

An imposing solitude makes me aware that I am alone,

Until I suddenly realize a mystery I have always known.

We are never truly alone, that truth always hovers near,

Alone amid the lush green verdure the earth holds dear.

- - - - - - - - - -

By night, what spectral ghosts may invade this noble place,

With darkness accentuated by shadows the light to efface.

By day, enchanted fairies sparkle in the mystery of sunlight,

Weaving textures of shaded green into an imposing sight.

- - - - - - - - - -

The undulating contours of land lend a sense of the human,

A extinct behemoth buried in the ground as a sleeping woman,

A tired maiden in holy repose and at rest under the velvet verge,

An ancient warrior or primitive giant seeking life in one final urge.

- - - - - - - - - -

Earth’s body moans, heaves, groans, stretches, fills the heart,

Thrown down from Heaven as a carpet its raw beauty to impart.

We see the earth from outer space as another celestial orb;

But up close, to the naked eye, its tribute to nature we absorb.

- - - - - - - - - -

As I take my leave from this hallowed place, I whisper a prayer,

In awe of nature to preserve such tranquility across many a year.

The sun descends, light is fading, the color of the hills turns dim;

The pure silence of these highlands follows me as a sacred hymn.

You write with great passion about your connection with the earth in this epic poem. And then I see the image you selected and know that those hills have such a seductive feel that one cannot help but think of Mother Earth as a woman waiting for our embrace.

You've woven a live tapestry of Nature that we should all heed. There is so much truth available through the appreciation of natural surroundings. Thank you for posting this.

Yep! That's what I was searching for in the true sense of the word.

To me anyway. I had, for many years I was troubled at what was wrong with me. Over the land and back again, until finally I came to the conclusion that the earth was going through an upheaval like it hadn't seen in our time. And in my strange thoughts I realized I, too, was going through an upheaval. I finally stopped and thought it all out, and my wandering days came to a serious stop, so did my undulating contours of the world a sense of the human. I worked it all out, giving myself to the earth’s direction. I was immediately free from my self-imposed bonds.

Beautiful entry. I can't weave words like that. Keep writing.
We are never alone.
