-- Those Bluebonnets --

By John Herlihy

Those blue bonnets, where do they come from and why?

From the richness of the deep dark earth with nary a sigh.

Ah, those blue bonnets, do they mimic the blue of the sky?

Whether mimic or mock, the purple blue no one can deny.

From the deepest vein in the depths of Heaven’s cornucopia,

A Persian carpet spread across the meadow as a garden utopia.

Hanging from a stem in clusters, how do they come to be called,

Of the beatific vision of a springtime youth in a bonnet enthralled.

An Irish lass meanders through the spring paradise wearing a smile;

Her modest head gently protected from the sun in the pioneer style.

Blue bonnets live their moment to soak in the blessing of the hour;

Each one competing with the other in the radiance of their power.

Look closely, and you will see them nodding in deference to the sun;

They know where they come from, in deference to one who is One.

Powerful ending, John! I found your use of imagery surreal. It was like watching a video. It is beautiful!

Love ya!
