The sky above and the earth below,

What is it about our world we truly know?

Separate worlds inhabit our field of vision,

Just look around you to perceive the division.

Half our world made up of glorious heavenly sky;

The other half surrounds us with questions why.

Sunlight shines upon earth creating reflected light;

Moonlight rises over the horizon to illuminate night.

On the one hand, the sky appears as deception;

That glorious deep blue but a trick of perception.

Then there the fathomless depths of ebony night,

An endless eternity of black space inducing fright.

The world of nature never knocks upon our door,

Never intrudes upon us while always offering more.

We are not philosophers; but neither are we blind;

A force lies within us that always opens the mind.

What can’t we accept the reality for what it truly is,

And not pursue illusions to disappear as smoke and fizz.

Why not draw the spirit from the world we know,

To fill the deep well of our being with its inner glow.
