-- Inside Nature’s Soul –
John Herlihy
If we had deeper feelings,
What would ordinary life have us feel?
If we had focused vision,
What in our life would we hear and see?
The thunderous footsteps of elephants,
The stealthy crawl of the panther,
The sonorous purring of the house cat,
The pitter patter of elfin chipmunks.
The dewy breath of the ladybug,
The winter stash of the squirrels,
The elegance of butterfly wings,
The whispers of hummingbird wings.
The heartbeat of the plodding turtle,
The mighty leap of the grasshopper,
The sawing buzz of the night crickets,
The raucous croaking of marshland frogs.
The mountains enveloped in morning mist
The grasslands drenched in a rain shower
Dark storm clouds by the sun dismissed
Desert emptiness in the fullness of its power
The powdery delicacy of winter snow,
The alluring intimacy of moon glow,
The mysterious beckoning of each star,
The belabored journey of the caterpillar,
The bountiful arch of the rainbow,
The sparkling sunlight on the bay,
The dung beetle with its load in tow,
Ants in single file going on their way,
The dewy awakening of the dawn,
The shadows of merciful shade,
The subtle shades of twilight,
The eerie darkness of the night.
The timid appearance of spring crocus,
The serene majesty of the lotus,
The vast expanse of the ocean,
The primal kiss of the earth and sky.
To finally drain away from oneself,
At one with a sense of higher being.
Enter such intimacy in surrender of self,
The veil of the eyes lifted into real seeing.
Let us roam consciously and by free will,
Inside the rarefied world of nature’s soul.
Touched by magic wand, the breath held still,
As the petals of nature’s flower begins to unfold.
