Strafing Run…
The helicopter comes in low,
Barely missing the tree tops,
Its guns are blazing,
Its missiles are flaring,
Its rotors rotating noisily,
M-60’s firing in unison…
Take cover; hit the dirt,
Or your gonna get hurt,
Mud smells the same the world over,
Left on your clothes till next it rains,
Dung from some wayward bull,
On your face, on your hands you do strain,
How close to the ground can you flatten yourself?
Still you are hit,
Friendly fire the culprit,
A bullet knows no allegiance,
Searing pain, it cuts through your body,
Like that of hot knife through butter,
Feel it you do, bouncing around inside,
Pray it does not hit your heart, the end then coming fast,
You do pray to your god, you do scream out for mom,
This bullet, this power from man, the next breath may be your last…

Love Tinka
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
One hugs the earth and becomes one with it. Besides the smell of the earth the smell of cordite becomes most profound. Very realistic write my friend.
But I have to say that this is a very good one, with some marvelously profound lines: "Mud smells the same the world over" and "A bullet knows no allegiance" are most profound, my friend.
Now relax and have a smoke before your next 'strafing run!'
