The Pines can be a place of reflection too...

Poem Artwork

 In the Pines all alone,

Never there till I was grown,

Scared of the woods when young,

Stories passed on of the devil of Jersey…

Such quietude in & amongst the trees,

No sound, just a little wind,

Animals all asleep or hiding,

For my time to depart I’ve been biding…

The only place better than this, the beach,

There I can talk to mom Ocean, here only to the trees,

And there I’ve not got any fear,

Though leaving in the early morning, I put forth a tear.

Ed. Put it all on God's shoulders. He can handle so much more than we can, my friend. That's what I need to do sometimes too.

Love ya!

I guess it's a result of our upbringing. You were practically born on the beach. I find the beach a rather harsh, noisy from the surf and gulls place and either too hot or too cold with a constant onshore breeze, blistering sun or terrible storms. Unlike you, from childhood I found the woods to be a tranquil wonderful place filled with little animals and birds scurrying about. Once in a while, the vision of something larger like a deer coming into view, sometimes startled by each other's presence. But mostly it's the solitude. In winter all covered with snow and bleak. In summer lush with singing insects and bird song in the otherwise quiet distance, lazily listening for footsteps of squirrels scurrying in the brush. Even as darkness falls and the moon comes out, the woods always seemed like a safe place to be. Owls hooting and doves cooing such comforting sounds.

I've always found peace in the woods, especially so since I'm landlocked where I live.

I can relate. I am often completely alone with the trees of this mountain (some of which I have planted and their height reminds me that I am not getting any younger). If all could have a kinship with nature in all its wonders, this world would know peace at last. I believe the Creator meant it to be so. Love and peace to you, Ed,

Regis. 🌲🌳🌴🌵🌳

Terrorforming Your Environment by RickthePoetWarrior

Never to leave well enough alone our attempts at managing our society, culture, and environment are recycled, re-used, and just generally regurgitated
