Wow.. I know this feeling. I have a cousin who is a Vet from the Gulf war and everyday it's something new. It's like he's a shell of a person and the Gov. could care less.

Wow, this poem rings so true. So many of our military men and women come back with unseen wounds and scars. Most people don't think of the mind as needing healing. Well written and powerful.

Alas, I don't believe it's the staff at the VA at blame. They can only do what monetary resources allow them to do. The blame falls squarely on our 'leaders' who never seem to want to give the VA and our vets what they truly, and morally, deserve. Our politicians love sending our soldiers off to war, but they very quickly, and very callously, forget all about them, when they return.

Yes, Karla. Maybe people will wake up to some of the realities behind media and government brainwashing. There is good here but a lot needs to be corrected and it won't be until it is recognized. Strong write.

When the Commander in Chief doesn't know what he is doing, casualties will overcome reason, means and unattainable goals.
Today there are a legion of unjustifiable War Veterans that gave all with their hands tied on their backs...for nothing.
The same Commander in Chief has forgotten them.

Brutal truth in this write that tears at the heartstrings. The way governments treat vets and civilian employees of the military when they are no longer able to support the war machine is a sad fact of life...I know I am living it as well.

Karla, I feel your anger and share it. These men and women deserve the best we have to offer and yet we manage to prolong their pain and dip them deeper into their nightmare. I do not think there is any way to prepare them for what they will face, but all around from beginning to end should be so very much more. Keep it up. Love you for it...God bless them all.

Sad, sad, sad...
My BIL, a veteran, is battling brain cancer & pneumonia. The care he received at the VA hospital was a joke... they were only medicating him to die. He was given 2 months to live 11 months ago... The only reason he is alive is due to his family's care. (They get him out of the hospital as soon as possible so that they can work on helping him heal instead of simply dying...)

Karla, your writes are deep and meaningful... Kudos!
