Saw a whole mess of them, in Galveston, TX. In Mexico, where this image was taken, there wasn't a one. Thought that strange - where did they go? The sky is a lonely place without their acrobatic flight -

I saw them vaulting off the springboard of air, pinwheeling and cartwheeling, as agile as any Olympic gymnast.
Reflected against the blue, they sparkled like diamonds as they danced on the sea of sky, mirrored by the flat ocean, below ..
Karla, I should send some of ours down to you, it would be warmer climate for them...We both wrote a sea gull poem..thats so funny.

I love this poem and sea gulls can become so annoying, even if they do look pretty flying through the air. I can tell you a funny story. The first day my family and I arrived in Galveston, after our move in 1991, my Mom was trying to talk on a pay phone at the Galveston McDonald's. She was attacked by a flock of seagulls who thought she had food! I've had issues with them, ever since! They're very annoying when fishing, too, but oh...so...pretty.
Nice picture and lovely poem Karla. It reminds me of being at Tybee Island and feeding the gulls off the balcony of our hotel room. It was amazing...they would come right up, hovering a foot and a half in front of you waiting for their bread for the briefest moment and if you blew your chance by throwing it out too late or something they would squalk and be so mad! I should write a poem about that. Thanks for the great poem to read and for triggering my own memories.
Your descriptive poem brings back memories of watching and feeding gulls along the Gulf Coast. Karla...you would enjoy the Coast area...around Corpus Christi. Lots and lots of gulls there. Great fun to toss pieces of bread into the air and watch 'em swarm. Be sure to toss the bread as high as you can, lest these sailors-of-the-air peck at your head :o)
