If you've ever observed an eagle....especially in flight....you'll understand...

Poem Artwork

A wondrous display in the meadow
Near a stand of snowy birch,
An eagle on the old cedar fence
Quiescent in his icy perch!
Regal cloak of black and white,
Perception in his clever stare,
Turning his head from side to side
Of all he surveys, he’s aware!
Like a king ruling his empire,
Decorum in his noble display!
My soul is rapt within his gaze,
I cannot move away!
Across the distance he speaks to me,
His spirit calls my name,
Reminding me that we are one
In nature’s vast domain!
Then with a rustle of massive wings
He abruptly rises in flight!
Claiming his rightful place in the sky,
What a truly majestic sight!

Nature continually offers us wonders to behold; it is sad that many have lost the ability to notice... ...or to care for that matter. Thank you, Annabel. Love and best wishes,

Regis

I had this same connection one time with a deer in my yard. I recognize the feeling. Great telling! Hugs,

I see these majestic birds right out my living room window and at our cabin in the summer we feed the fish scraps to them and what a show to watch!

Yes Anna, I have witnessed the magic of these feathered miracles of nature. I have even seen one once on my way to the hight arctic as a young sailor. They never fail to impress me just as your words also impress my mind. Well done.

I seen a large bird that could have been an Eagle sitting atop a nearby roof. It flew off but he was so large I heard his wings flap.
Excellent writing, Annabel.

Few poems have touched me as this one has. I've seen eagles in flight in our area but rarely and never up close. Hawks have claimed the mountain area where I live and one hss made friends with me and visits often. I wrote a poem about it, "Spirit Hawk" which you may have read. Your lines:

Across the distance he speaks to me,
His spirit calls my name,
Reminding me that we are one
In nature’s vast domain!

enbrace the fact that we are all truly one. I guess you can tell I love your poem my friend.

Peace and Love,
Marcia

Yep. I concur, Anna, that is nothing like watching an eagle soar through the sky, and if one is close as this one was to you and take off, it has to be a wonderful, wonderful sight.

Thankfully, I've had the opportunity numerous times in the great northwood, and it still thrills me, each and every time.
