Adding our own warmth to the season may get it kick-started.
Spring Is Here?
Spring is here?? The green shoots have checked their watches, just to be sure; wondering if perhaps the ‘boss’ meant next month? Reports coming back from the scouts that were sent on ahead are not looking good. The crocuses are asking for danger pay or at least reassurance that they will not be clobbered by a barrage of snowballs as soon as they poke their heads through the ground! Once they’re out there, there’s no turning back; I’ve yet to see a crocus with its head stuck in the ground, tunneling its way back to safety – unlike this Canuck who wants to stick her head back under the covers at the sight of yet more snow! Even the birds are having second thoughts: Living beside the St. Lawrence, we witnessed a flock of them heading back south over the border during this last blast – and they weren’t patiently saying, sorry, sorry, sorry; they were flapping their wings like crazy and muttering, Really, really, really?!
Who will win the Whine award this year? I’m afraid I’m right up there in close contention with those birds. Mother Nature has decided to treat us to a little tough love this Spring, and instead of having faith in her wisdom, we are constantly second-guessing her as we always have and wondering if she’s still in control. She has listened to our back seat driving and put up with our intolerance and has taken note of how much warmth we have fed back into the pot. Maybe it’s time we upped our contributions and did our bit to add some extra sunshine to the season – to give those around us a reason to smile; Maybe we need to pull on those toques one more time and wear them with pride as we look around and appreciate the hidden gifts that come with the snow – moisture for the coming season’s crops, the pleasure that comes from watching the appreciative birds at our bird feeders; Blue sky – white snow – golden sun – red cardinals - pretty nice colours! As our dear friend Jane would have said – “It’s beautiful isn’t it? How good is that – How lucky are we!” Indeed! Happy Spring!
