A New Year, a New Home, and New Challenges 3/23/2010 9:49:38 AM
Well, I've been neglecting this blog for many weeks now. Last December my family and I moved from just outside Cambridge, England to our new house in Glocester, R.I. and we are STILL unpacking boxes! During this time, I lost my father-in-law, Ken Patri, who was a grand gentleman. R.I.P., "Pop."
My office is still a bloody mess (at least I've got my computer up and running)and I haven't written a word. Well, all of that is about to change. However, I cannot let this day go by without mentioning the horrible "healthcare" bill signed by Obama this morning. Once again, we are being led down the primrose path . . . to socialism. Does anybody REALLY think this bloated monstrosity of a bill will fix anything? All we had to do is what the Republicans in Congress have been saying - allow for interstate purchase of health insurance, enact meaningful tort reform, allow people with preexisting conditions to buy health insurance and stop insurance companies from dumping you (or grossly upping your premiums) when you get sick. Yes, this bill does SOME of these things but at great expense AND it does a whole lot more. Much more than we bargained for. Did you know that if you don't need, or don't want, health insurance, you are now going to be coerced to buy it? And did you know the IRS is going to enforce this by monitoring each and every one of us to make sure we have "adequate" health insurance? Ugh . . . And the cost! $$$$$$$
This thing was passed by the Dems by the skin of their teeth and it's going to be challenged in court. I pray to God it gets struck down.
I heard one commentator say this was the "high point" (or some similar term) of liberalism in America and that it would begin a long decline. For our sake, the sake of our children, and the sake of our Republic, I hope and pray he's correct.
