You know, sometimes after we write and we have a book published, the second one isn’t so easy. (Well maybe not as easy as the first one) But the one thing we all need to remember is that what we have accomplished once, we can do again. If we had one book in us then we have two. Relax before you start to write. Put on that soft music. Pour yourself that chamomile tea. Do the things that put you in a relaxed, open kind of mood. Then just start to write and see what comes.
Maybe you can start off by writing about an experience you had as a child. Maybe you were in a big snowstorm, for example. What was it like? Who were you with? And from there, ideas will flow.
Perhaps you will remember a childhood friend or place that you can use in your new book. What was that person like? What did that place look like? What memories do you associate with it? These feelings will help color your writing and make it come alive.
Sometimes we need to start off with the familiar to move forward into the unknown.
