I remember the smell.
The copper taste still lies on my tongue.
I see my hands and the stains that
lay under these fingernails.

My mirror reflects drops of blood
splattered from head to toe.
Your final words are lasting scars
upon my mind, burnt to memory.

How could I ever forget what is a part of me.
The life that slipped between these hands
reached out for friendship and our pact
became Sacred before God and man.

No, I shall never forget that final breath
which sealed our never ending bond.
You leave for peaceful pastures and I
remain to pay tribute and honor.

Blessed be your name upon these lips.
Some will not remember but sworn upon
our frienship and marked with life's blood.
I shall never forget.

One of the most powerful, compelling and moving accounts of true cameraderie and bravery that I have ever read. You took me right there and moved me to my core, Paul. Such controlled writing of a life- and earth-shattering event. I salute you for bringing it to us with such composure, and yet wrought with emotion and honesty. Bless you and thank you. Kate xx

Paul, a heart rendering tribute poem to those you really cared about. The scars & pain will alway haunt your memories and sometimes I believe we carry a guilt in our souls for losing them.

I strongly believe that when you do remember someone and pay tribute to them, they know somehow. As long as one person thinks of them...they are not truly gone. A powerful poem, Paul!

This is a beautiful tribute to friendship. The scars left behind are truly etched in one's mind and can never be forgotten.

I pray that with every passing day your load will be lightened as you remember your pact and receive His strength to carry on.

God bless you. Kathy

This reminds me of a song,,, "One Blood", by Terrence Jay,
(one flesh, one breath, one life, one blood) You should try to listen to it,,,, I am sure you would like it. This brings me to tears,, makes me think of stories my uncle told me that he could not talk about most of his life,, as it was too painful, but you never forget.,, Always your friend, Christine

Powerful write Paul. I'll never forget either my friend. I never had a friend die in my arms so I can't say I know how you feel but I do understand completely what you are saying here. It is a shame all that we have lost. God bless you.

Paul,

The price paid for battle is a terrible cost. Powerful rememberance, I'm sorry for your loss. I will not forget, either, today or ANY day. Every day is Veteran's Day/Memorial Day to me. As it should be to all who value freedom.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
