The Tempest

The storm may be created by man or nature We are all at the mercy of life.

Quiet, almost defiantly so...
We are endowed with Herculean strength.
Leaving a wake of carnage,
whatever path chosen...

Stopping for nothing or no one...
Destruction is our objective.
Nature uprooted by natures phenom...
Mighty oaks tossed as tumbleweed...

We slow only to refuel,
grasping a high for acceleration.
Boundaries limitless... Roads unknown...
Courses unchartered...

Having no conscience, we become
the equalizer of civilization.
Never looking over our shoulder...
Uncaring of the devastation
left behind.

This is one of the reasons I love poetry so much, Paul. With poetry, we can truly see beyond ourselves and gaze into the nature of mankind. This poem reflects years of wisdom and observation, which half the world is oblivious to - and content to be so. They 'storm' on with life, not caring. Perhaps the rest of us allow it, becoming nearly as guilty. I love the line "Mighty oaks tossed as tumbleweed..." - This shows the destruction we are truly capable of. Excellent write! Love and Hugs:)
