A crazy 5 minute composition with a few twists. Excuse the irregular rhyme scheme...it's just the way it worked out. ;) Call it 'fowl' play.

The caterpillar faces a highway
and considers what it will take to cross
She risks being squished
but won't be missed
so counts it as no loss

On the other side
A chicken waits with glee
Folk thought him dumb
but he's out in the sun (albeit on the run)
cuz he outwitted KFC

A chicken has his needs, but
'fast food' eventually arrives
Indeed my friends
through the dips and bends
his patience keeps him alive.

The grass is always greener...
'The grub must make her move'
but the road is far too treacherous
and she seems stuck inside a groove
The chicken watches frowning
as she spins a tight coccoon
inside she hides
dreams of a ride
and hopes it comes 'real soon'

The chicken is a determined creature
And since he has no fixed abode
Thinks perhaps he should fight
for what seems so right
And he's compelled to cross the road
 
Instead of a juicy morsel
he finds an empty case
He just cannot see
how it can be
for he's got egg all over his face.

Like all good chickens before him
he has a good scratch around
Hoping he'll find the evidence
somewhere upon the ground.

Way up high above him
the erstwhile caterpillar
catches a breeze and sings
Traffic is no longer a problem
for she's grown a pair of wings...

(Now you know why the chicken crossed the road.)
