The confused mother expressed surprise.
The little bird arrived every day without compromise.
Was it there to say hello or bid good-bye,
A lucky sign making mother’s heart want to sigh?
The family was just about to dine,
Precisely five minutes to noon.
The sun was ablaze with shine.
The bird flew into the room.
The bird fluffed her feathers atop the lamp shade,
Took a casual look up, down, and all around,
Chirped sweetly as she would in a glade,
Then flew again through the window outward bound.
Mother said to her children with some power:
“She arrives with the regularity of the hour.
If she doesn’t show up tomorrow,
It will fill me with sorrow.”
The event keeps the entire family guessing,
About the arrival of the bird with its aura of blessing.
Will the bird show up again to bless the luncheon,
Or is she just passing thru expecting honorable mention?
Next day, the family gathered together expectantly for luncheon;
The table was set with food and the children were ready for munchin’.
Some eyes on the clock, others looking at the open window,
Lo and behold, the little black bird flew in from the meadow on cue.
Now confirming what everybody already knew;
Nature conveys messages that arrive out of the blue.
Great little poem with a message that is important that some things can be counted on.
The birds return to our bird feeder every morning before and after the birdseed is placed in it. However, they shy away from their benefactor and do not go to the feeder until she is well out of sight. It's too bad that little birds think of her with fright.
