The Wind and the Tree
By John Herlihy

The wind and the tree,
Locked in an age-old battle.

The wind takes on the tree.
The tree absorbs the wind.
The wind courts the tree.
The tree bows to the wind.
The wind bends the tree.
The tree breaks the wind.
The wind cracks one in a hundred.
The tree smacks wind for wind.
The wind does not slay the tree.
The tree does not conquer the wind.
The wind caresses the tree.
The tree touches the wind.

They come together in mutual embrace.
In fact, they kiss each other face to face.

Certainly places the Palm Tree as the epitome of trees, given the beating most take in their natural habitats of windy islands. The Weeping Willow also comes to mind. I had one outside my window as a boy. I always marveled at the resolute insistence it always made with its sign language of conversation it had with the weather. You've given event and meditation to this ancient gift of nature, giving metaphor its due in this shared wisdom. Thank you for posting.

Always learning, I read recently that all plants, including trees, become stronger if grown outdoors in the wind. Plants grown indoors not have the strength of those that constantly are being moved by the wind, whether it be gently or violently.

Nicely done.
