Ageless,
Seeming eternal,
One ring at a time,
Thru the years and seasons,
Marking the past,
With future’s reasons.
Lashed with rain,
Bedecked in snow,
Thru heat the sun shines,
The tree simply glows.
The years flow like a river;
Time passing makes me shiver.
The tree bends in respect;
I wave a greeting with no regret.
The leaves are rustling;
Something is laughing.
The branches reach into eternity;
Infinity is spread across its arms,
Standing stately amid royal palms,
Giving every appearance of being free,
All the while awash in mystery.
The world is illuminated
By the light of the tree.
Another ode to the tree. What a wonderful thing a tree is. You made me recall the times I would hike the hills behind my West Virginia cottage seeking old trees. I found an old oak somewhat broken but still alive, with huge branches lying on the ground around it, having fallen from storms in the past. This tree had been miraculously saved, while still cut off from its former forest, left overlooking a superhighway that came within a few yards of taking it along with thousands of other trees as it cut its way through the countryside.
for me, it is still a mystery how come that a piece of the wooden creature (green plant) can process what is called 'photosynthesis.' No wonder that, with its ability to accumulate the energy, it can be someone's good friend or a pet, like bonsai. Cheers, alex
