The sun becomes drowsy in its decline;
The land’s shadows stretch to become supine.
The universal day is beginning its cycle of end;
Universal night prepares a haunting message to send.
The impending darkness speaks of the descent of light;
The encroaching darkness remembers eternity’s night.
The spirit of dusk seems to take on the color of rain;
Flower petals close in slow motion as if in pain.
The tulips now droop their heads like church bells,
Chiming in the wind, the coming of night to foretell.
The world hears ancient calls that accompany the night;
In the heart of darkness, owls watch with eyes of light.
Sunset’s colors now blunted with shadowy cloud;
The darkness grows deeper as in a folding shroud.
Fragments of light still linger a while all around,
As the sleepy eyelid of the world gently closes down.
It seems like the world had suddenly slipped its leash,
To allow the darkness to rush headlong into the breach.
Before departing, I take one last look across the land;
Only darkness remains in the palm of eternity’s hand.
I am saving this one to read before bedtime as it is so relaxing and calming a read. In fact, I think I'll frame it and put it on the wall next to my bed. Thank you!
A sublime discourse of the calming and inspiring effect darkness represents, especially when it can be witnessed, as you've projected, as a phase by phase, moment to moment quietness to contemplate, and for some of us, the passage of time in which to meditate.
