Listen, in the stillness of the night,
Half the world slumbers out of sight.
Not a single bird rustles its feathers,
The globe loves such soft weathers.
The wind settles down more gently still,
Sweet sleep overcomes the proud jonquil.
The night’s darkness always takes its toll,
Hoarding the day’s light that it ever stole.
Time passes till the moment arrives,
Darkness knows it no longer survives.
The moment there in the dead of night,
When night itself dies in the coming light.
The universal rhythms of night and day,
But treasured toys of a Divinity at play.
If darkness knows that it will soon die,
So also humanity knows it must comply.
For now, they rest content out of sight,
At peace, in the stillness of the night.
There is a stillness the night holds for all wherever they are. Finland has winter with no days and summers without darkenss. I enjoyed this poem so much!

I agree with Eva. With birds not "ruffling" their feathers and the wind settling "down more gently still," is a rather tranquil view of the night. The night can be horrifying when predators swoop down on resting birds or rob their nests. Or when storm winds blow, and lightning flashes across the sky, banishing the darkness for a moment.
this piece deserves to be hearing, not reading. . . the hearing is the main point of its magical latency, behind which our incapability to hear the true sounds of the night stillness. The same sound, I guess, fills up the entire space out of our earthly existence. a huge piece with its tremendous background. O Humanity! They know it must be comply. Cheers, alex
