-- THE MYTH OF THE RAINY NIGHT --
John Herlihy
It all sparkles like diamonds,
Light upon light in the light.
The dark shadows like almonds,
Light upon light in shadowy night.
What do we have but God’s empty day,
Sunlight gone replaced but moonlight shadow.
The silence at first has very little to say,
The trees stand as sentinels in the meadow.
God was gone but the trees stand tall,
The silence left behind has taken His place.
Into the evening of life, a little rain must fall,
To break the silence; the hush keeps apace.
I knew this moment, it had happened before,
After long waiting, it was about to arrive.
What was it that lay out there in store,
Waiting to fill us with abundance to survive.
The night breathes in wavy showers of light,
Standing there, every leaf bedecked with dew.
The dew drops filled with the soul of the night,
As I stand there and realize all nature knew.
Be content sad heart and stop whining,
The night light sparkles in its own shining.
Everything, anything, it all suddenly feels right,
Standing there, in the myth of the rainy night.

Love ya!

On the other hand, in dreams or living in the desert, a rainy night might seem like a myth for their infrequency.
