NATURE’S MYSTERIES

____________________________

John Herlihy

The firefly illuminates the night with glee,

Just as the butterfly soars as proud as can be.

The mountains are just full of themselves,

Just as rivers run along as merrily as elves.

Time has a way of making everything old,

Just as winter loves to make things cold.

The fog a thick soup floating across the plain,

Just as spring arrives with its wetness of rain.

The dawn brings with it its own sweetness,

Just as twilight brings fresh young darkness.

Noontime marks the crest of the day’s hour,

Just as midnight marks night’s magical power.

Within nature’s mysteries, such intrigue sewn,

Every secret lies there just waiting to be known.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all would realize and remember that we are a part of nature as well, and charged with the protecting of it?

i like the way you worded these opposites into comparisons, observing nature in her many verities has always been a favorite of mine

very effective poetic comparisons here, making us once again stop and reflect on our embracing or ignoring such magical mysteries. Thank you for the reminder that all isn't as so many of the unconscious would have us believe. Kudos.

We are always better off close to nature.
Beautiful words.
This is my first year successfully feeding humming birds.
I am so pleased and thankful to be somewhere where I can really help them and be entertained all day.
