-- Nature’s Beauty --

John Herlihy

There is something delicate in the tracks of a bird,

As delicate as the sweet song in their voices heard.

There is something delicate in the wind on the water,

The breath of the invisible seen in the hand of a wave.

There is something tender in a butterfly alight on a hand;

In taking its leave to fly away, it feels like a reprimand.

There is something tender in the caress of silence at dawn,

Such feeling of blessed hope as the new day is born.

There is something mysterious in rhythmic flight of pelicans,

So graceful and sleek as they journey to far distant lands.

There is something mysterious in the night glow of a firefly,

Nature’s lamp never so beautiful against a darkened sky.

Something awesome in the wolf’s howling against the moon,

Something awesome in fragile flower petals coming to bloom,

Something awesome in distant stars lending night its mystery,

Something awesome the way falling show create sheer fantasy.

Wherever I turn, nature’s bounty always sets my heart aglow,

Reminding me of all the beauty and truth that I need to know.

Nature is both our gift and our teacher, if we would only accept it as such.

like you nature is the path to the goal, unfortunately most do not accept that as the truth and beauty to be found.
