-- Any Moon --
John Herlihy
Fish swim under the night-filled lake.
Yellow-eyed owls see thru the dark.
The night bird’s silence sings as a song.
The darkness flows on, as if it belongs.
We roam thru this mysterious world,
As in a looking-glass, seeing the other side.
This moon, any moon, sheds magical light.
I feel invader, a stranger, in its mystical glow.
Stars speak eternal whispers that ride the wind,
The silver threads of light holding the night together.
The foothills as animals in shadow across cold distance,
The old man in the moon hides behind rock craters.
The firefly beams its feeble light and brightens nothing;
Its glow nothing, but this little lantern illuminates everything.
