The great blue heron
Elegance in its quest
Such beauty looked upon
A standout among the best
Night feeding in wetlands
Native of the Florida Keys
On two spindly legs it stands
In prayer, genuflecting its knees
its blue feathers stark and sleek
Gently padded with powder down
Often night feeding by a quiet creek
Its face forever in smile, never frown
The bird’s flight such beauty in bloom
Wings extended, pure freedom in lift
In its wake trails its feathered plume
Flies into the blue, unaware of its gift

The Blue heron has a majesty all its own! There was one that lived by our lake in Punta Gorda. I named him George. He became quite friendly and would come by for food. We sold the house and moved. I am not sure what happened to him. I will post his picture!

I know them all too well, I've been blessed with their presences
and have observed them in the wilderness of nature, and amazed at their ability to swallow a fish half their own size
truly a remarkable and beautiful addition to the marvel of reality
