Poem Artwork

Waves of swollen river Ganga crash over statue of Lord Shiva In Rishikesh In the Himalayan state of Uttarakand North India,,17th June 2013- A great disaster.

Nature rises like a terminator in action

Rivers, gutters, puddles hastens the flow

Beating rocks , thumping waters speak

 Renewed energy  awaken passion fierce

The clouds go nasty and burst free

Galloping waters swell with pride ,

Amazing gut devour  one and all

Statues in temples and churches go

Creatures, homes , and motors whole

Make paper boats of fallen trees

Tumble into streams to become driftwood

Like the Midas touch turned his girl to metal

Sacks of cement now turned to stone

Ransack homes and stored grains destroy

What  comes across, it pulls  in its folds

A game of warfare, soaks in blood, all that is dry

The life giving source turns for the kill

Threaten the  powers of the good and the holy

For this demeaning drama of a devil’s dance

Fathom  scale of  massive losses  borne

Nature’s calamity is wretched and  wrong

Shamelessly bearing like a  fragile  witch

Helpless and exposed, squirming its sores

Mother nature always  bearing and giving

She turns  unruly when much bantered

We see not the pain within  her heart so hurt

Like lines by William Congreve in ‘The mourning Bride’

“Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned

Hell has no fury like a woman scorned”

...can hear the sound of waves crashing the statue
and the message...coming clear...destructive force
of nature cannot be stopped...
You have an amazing way with words J.K....

Very nice and so true. We learn, don't we, that Mother Nature is not a force to play with. How sad to see the statue like that.

Nature will always have her way...we have had bad flooding here in UK in recent years...and it is devastating...but thankfully not with great losses of life...
This is an epic poem which conveys the power of water to cause such havoc and destruction...

It's very interesting how such a life-giving force as rainwater can become so destructive at the same time. I especially like the reference to Mother Nature as a woman because sometimes see acts like "a woman scorned."

What a grand piece of poetry you have penned for us this morning, my friend. I live in a part of the world where Nature's wrath comes to visit in the form of hurricanes. I have lived through quite a few of them, preferring to stay rather than run. I've been lucky.

The life giving source turns for the kill

Mother truly seems to be on quite a rampage these days, and I hope She calms down soon.
