What Hath God Wrought

 MY PHONE

I never leave my phone alone,

It’s always in my hand.

A technological masterpiece,

That makes my life so grand.

It has a camera for selfies,

Or making videos on the spot.

And of course there’s texting,

Of which I do a lot.

I can surf the web or do E-mails.

It has apps for this and that.

And with its GPS capability,

I know exactly where I’m at.

I can play games on my phone,

Or use it as a clock.

And sometimes I’ll even use my phone,

To make a call and talk.

My little phone works the same,
And no matter what Ron says it ain't lame,
I even named my little phone, Andy,
Her proper name being Android,
In comparison to my old flip phone,
This one is strongly on steroids...-e-

At 20, paralyzed with my wristwatch spinning around my shrunken wrist threatening to fall off my permanent left fist, I put my watch in a drawer and forgot about it. I was never late for anything. In fact, I was often quite early and knew what time it was.

That lesson applies to phones. While there are phones like police use that can be attached to my body, I can't push small buttons or manipulate touchscreens, so these devices are useless to me. I have a phone in the house on a desktop with a message for those that missed me when I'm not in the house. Most calls are nuisance calls anyway.

I'm not sure what I'm missing without texting, selfies, reminders, and pictures and videos of everything I do. But I'm sure it gives me more time write and to write comments to poems like this. I guess I'll have to continue suffering… ;-)

Yes, it can do many things, as you say, Michael, but would you believe that I still don't have a smart phone, just an old Nokia clunkie. I still manage to do what needs to be done on my work and home computer. I don't need to do anything else on the phone when I am driving, in the elevator or when I am eating. Cheers, John

What would we do without them? How DID we make it without them? What will we have 20 years from now? Amazing!

Love ya!
