 A B C GUM

(It’s Already Been Chewed)

If you run out of gum,

And find yourself in dire straits,

Just look under any desk,

Where a treasure trove awaits.

You’ll find gum that’s been stuck there,

Chewed by who knows who.

Wad after wad of gum,

Flavored with leftover residue.

A salivating blend of colors,

With greens and pinks and blues.

Hanging on like stalactites,

Gum that’s already been chewed.

Some wads appear quite fresh

And are easily located.

There’s nothing like A B C gum.

It’s been well masticated.

If you really need some gum,

It’s no time to brood.

A B C gum works in a pinch,

It’s already been chewed.

I really love chewing gum. Gum helped me break the habit of cigarette smoking 30 years ago or so. I don't think I ever chewed recycled gum but if I got desperate I might just have to have me some. I think NOT! LOL

Not to mention those gummy things that are on the bottom of your shoes, they are easier to get to as I like the ones that are blue...-e-

Awe!!! C'mon, Michael!!! I went to school and became a Registered Medical Assistant MAMS!!! Even as a waitress, I would avoid contact with "gum" stuck on plates and the silverware. Bleach water was always available. I mean, you write so well, this is cute, but the very thought of it is blowing my mind!! LOL!!

Love ya!

Brings back memories of my school days.

As I recall, under my desks during my elementary years and even later, there were always these lumps of ABC gum thoroughly fixed to the woodwork. And as I looked at them, they had the appearance of a glob of varnish, perhaps because they had been varnished over between school years. I must say there was not a tasty one to be had, and scraping them off was an onerous punishment given by teachers for bad behavior.

I recall vividly stepping on some gum on a hot Labor Day retrieving my furniture from Atlanta, somewhere in Alabama at a gas stop. That sticky gum on my shoe became part of a Baton Rouge adventure that I should write about it was so eventful.

Ew. I hate sticking my hand under a table or chair and finding gum. I guess I have you to thank for this. ABC gum. Ew.
