I’M GREEN TO GROW
I’m full of chlorophyll,
Which gives me lots of green.
Using photosynthesis,
I’m an oxygen producing machine.
I grow in yards.
I grow in parks.
I grow in meadows,
For meadowlarks.
To regulate my size,
I get mowed and cut.
If you give me a depression,
It leaves me in a rut.
When people dig me,
I’m referred to as sod.
But if they turn me over,
I get called a clod.
I have many blades,
But they’re not very sharp.
My roots are bound together,
And hard to pull apart.
I can be luxurious and thick,
Like a carpet lush and plush.
I’ll protect my turf,
I won’t grow in underbrush.
I’m not a shady character,
I like to have some sun.
You can jump and play on me,
I’m there for the fun.
Even when I’m put out to pasture,
I still have style and class.
I come from the family Poaceae,
But you can call me grass.

Alas, although you gave me much to think about, you didn't reveal what mail they mean when they tell me, "Your ass is grass!" ;-)

Peace be with you ........ William
