He's cutting edge.

 JACK KNIFE

Jack Knife was cutting edge.

As sharp as sharp can be.

He keeps his nose to the grindstone,

And carries Band-Aids in case of an emergency.

Clara Cleaver was a slashing beauty.

Her eyes were piercing blue.

She had a fine set of cutlery,

And shined with a polished hue.

Jack and Clara met one night,

While dancing at the Blade.

They were soon in each other’s pocket,

And fluting in the shade.

They could walk and talk all day,

And then slice and dice all night.

They’d keep busy boning,

Until dawns early light.

Jack proposed and married Clara,

She was the love of his life.

They made the perfect paring,

She likes being serrated by her Knife.

They bought a house in Butcher Block,

On the corner of Whet and Stone.

They don’t often get into scrapes,

But one thing’s for sure…..

It’s never dull at the Knife’s home.

Jack and Clara certainly live life on the edge. This one is a cut above! Your use of words that have two disparate meanings, yet can be read both ways in the poem is simply amazing. All I can say is your muse never seems to let you down when it comes to creating very unique, funny and enduring poems like this. Why I'm so glad you have put out a book of poetry for others to cherish in the future. And, be sure to include this sharp ditty in the next.

A droll piece, peppered with sexual innuendo. These might make good cartoon characters.

You outdid yourself on this one, moving from knife, to cleave, to blade, to paring, to slice and dice. Ed's comment hits the mark. You take a simple idea and run with it. Very clever indeed as you carve out your niche.
